AG's office: Witnesses may be withholding info about unsolved 1995 murder of Boston man in NH
Tips sought in cold case
Investigators believe witnesses may have withheld information about the unsolved murder of a Boston man in New Hampshire 30 years ago and are renewing their call for anyone with information to come forward. Hai Bo "Paul" Lei, 26, of Boston, was found dead along Hampstead Road in Salem on March 30, 1995. Lei was shot multiple times, bound, strangled, and had his throat cut in an execution-style killing, the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office said. Shell casings and ligatures were found at the scene, but despite a lengthy investigation, there have been no arrests in the case. Authorities said advancements in forensic science could help, but they are hoping someone will come forward with information. Investigators said there were credible indications that people may have withheld information out of fear of retaliation or being associated with a gang or illegal activity. Others may have been worried that they would not be believed. "To those individuals: we are asking you to come forward now—anonymously, if necessary. We believe there are still people out there who know what happened to Paul, or who heard something in the aftermath that could help. If you were part of Paul’s world, knew him casually, or simply heard something—no matter how minor it seemed—your voice matters. The passage of time does not erase the need for justice. Even the smallest detail could be the key to finally solving this case," the AG's office wrote in a statement. Authorities are now asking anyone with information to come forward, noting that they can do so anonymously. They are hoping to hear from anyone who knew Lei casually or simply heard something about his murder, no matter how minor it seemed. If you have information about the murder of Lei, you are urged to contact the New Hampshire Cold Case Unit tip line at 800-525-5555 or email coldcaseunit@dos.nh.gov.
