The Operations Engineering Internship is an on-site part time internship (20 hours a week) during the Spring 2025 academic season (March 2025-May/June 2025) followed by full time (40 hours/week) 10-weeks internship upon school release for Summer 2025 (May/June 2025 – July/August 2025).

This is NOT a corporate or virtual position and will be located on-site in a fulfillment center, sort center, delivery station, or other warehouse/construction/job trailer environment.

About the Program:

  • The program is divided into a spring and summer term. The spring term is a part time internship from March 2025 – May/June 2025 (20 hours a week). The summer term is full-time (40 hours a week) and lasts 10 weeks during the summer of 2025.

  • Candidates must reside within a 50 mile radius of the site as on-site presence is required during the Spring and Summer terms.

  • 50-75% travel may be required to support Amazon’s installation sites throughout North America during the summer term.

  • This position is NOT a corporate role and will be located in a Fulfillment Center, Sort Center, Delivery Station, or other warehouse/construction/job trailer environment.

  • A driver’s license is required due to on-site internship locations.

Key job responsibilities

  • Drive resolution for an intern project by owning and deep diving data to support a process improvement recommendation

  • Assist in designing, building, improving, and innovating order fulfillment infrastructure throughout the large-scale supply chain network within Amazon’s North America Customer Fulfillment Project Engineering Team

  • Support management, design, and implementation of medium scope integrated automation projects with system elements such as high speed sortation, multiple conveyors, package lines, and/or robotic work cells

  • Guide and coordinate design and execution efforts between internal teams and outside vendors including equipment specifications, material flow, process design, and site layout

  • Develop and manage budget and contract documents including RFPs, change order controls, purchase orders, and invoicing

  • Direct system commissioning and predefined testing activities, including administering the plan, interpreting statuses and reporting results

  • Coordinate with local site management to ensure proper operator training, procedural compliance, maintenance and safety practices are followed for new and existing equipment

  • Thoroughly document/investigate FC change requests and provide recommendations

  • Inspect facilities in accordance with corporate standards and procedures relating to material handling, processing and storage

  • Ability to perform the following task, with or without reasonable accommodation:

o Stand and walk for up to 12 hours

o Walking in/around the warehouse with great frequency; many facilities are over a quarter mile in length

o Access all areas of building by ascending and descending ladders, stairs, gangways safely

o Regular bend, lift, stretch, and reach below the waist and above the head

o Lift and move totes up to 49 pounds each

  • Work weekends, holidays, and/or overnight shifts and overtime (as required)

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently working towards Bachelor’s or Masters Degree with a graduation date between December 2025 and August 2026

  • Pursuing Bachelor’s or Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technically based Engineering field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven technical guidance for large-scale industrial engineering projects

  • Experience with implementation of integrated automation solutions, such as complex material handling systems, high speed packaging lines and manufacturing lines

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products: Excel, Project and Outlook

  • Highly proficient CAD skills; capable of developing an integrated automation layout unassisted

  • Exposure to Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing efforts, transportation/logistics and/or fulfillment/distribution centers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $26.25/hr in our lowest geographic market up to $44.95/hr in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
